Simply reaching your target audience isn't enough. Marketers buy impact. What matters isn't how many people see the campaign, but what happens as a result of that exposure.
Visibility is a tool, not a goal
In marketing, it's easy to focus on measurable metrics: impressions, clicks, and reach. These are useful indicators, but few pursue them for their own sake. Simply being seen isn't enough—visibility must deliver results.
According to a brand study conducted by Outshine in spring 2026, marketers are currently seeking to grow brand awareness, consideration, and preference. Beyond driving sales activation, they want to build a distinctive and memorable brand image.
The more category entry points (CEPs) at which a brand, product, or service comes to mind during a moment of need, the more likely it is to ultimately be chosen.

From objectives to results
Contacts, reach, and visibility matter. Without exposure, there can be no impact. The real value of marketing, however, comes from what results from that exposure.
Setting objectives and measuring effectiveness help determine what visibility has achieved. Post-campaign research can examine factors like ad awareness, distinctiveness, and message effectiveness, while also measuring impact on the brand or the target audience's desired activation. Campaign effectiveness can also be researched beforehand if needed.
That's why, before your next campaign, it's worth asking two questions: How many people will see my ad? And even more importantly: What do we want to happen next?
