Tappara: Putting the puck in the net – on the ice and in the streets

Starting Point

In its upcoming 70th anniversary season, Tappara is bringing the excitement and atmosphere of Nokia Arena out of the rink – into the heart of the hockey community and onto the streets of Tampere. The goal is for Outshine’s digital screens to pulse with the rhythm of the games: when the next home match is, who the opponent is, who scores the first goal of the night – and how the fan section lives the game.

Tappara is celebrating its 70th anniversary this season. To honor that, we want to reach our fans more broadly and impactfully than ever before – not just in the arena, but also on the streets and in the flow of traffic. This is the perfect way to celebrate our milestone year and the new season.

Execution

Outshine’s data-driven digital screens are tuned to follow game events throughout the season. Screens around the arena and in downtown Tampere come alive whenever the puck drops – and even before that. For example:

The day before the game: screens remind fans of the upcoming match and count down to puck drop.
On game day: the countdown continues and information about the evening’s game spreads.
Before the game: lineups appear on the screens in real time, pulled directly from the Liiga database.
During the game: goal scorers update automatically on the screens within seconds.
After the game: final score and post-game atmosphere.

All information updates on the streets automatically, quickly, and in real time – straight from the Liiga database. A dedicated control panel was also built for Tappara to manage content updates, allowing messages and visuals to be changed instantly without intermediaries.

The collaboration between Outshine and Tappara demonstrates how sports and technology merge into a single experience – both on the ice and around it.
